THE MODELS

Model runs, side by side.

The European and American global models rarely agree perfectly. Compare them yourself, live.
ECMWF VS GFS

Same atmosphere, two answers

Left: the European model (ECMWF). Right: the American GFS. Scrub either timeline forward and watch where they diverge — that divergence IS the forecast uncertainty.

GOING DEEPER

Where the model nerds go

For raw panels, soundings and every run of every model: NOAA’s Model Analyses and Guidance is the official source for GFS, NAM and HRRR output; College of DuPage and Tropical Tidbits are the community’s favorite viewers; ECMWF’s open charts publish the European model directly.

Rule of thumb: never trust a single deterministic run more than 5 days out. Trends across runs and agreement between models is where forecasts are made — and when they disagree, the SPC outlook tells you what the professionals concluded.
