Five terms worth knowing

Slight risk does not mean slight danger — it means organized severe storms are expected, just not everywhere. Watch means be ready; warning means act. A front is simply the boundary where two air masses collide — which is where most weather happens. CAPE is fuel: the higher the number, the more energy a storm can tap. And PoP — “40% chance of rain” — means 4 in 10 odds that rain reaches your exact spot, not that it will rain 40% of the day.
